A colleague acquired a Handspring Treo 600 and provided an opportunity to play with it for a while.
Thoughts:
- The device itself is about the size I expected. It fits in the hand reasonably well.
- The screen itself seemed okay from a size point of view, but after seeing the higher resolution screens on newer Palm devices it looked blocky. No different to the older Treos in that respect.
- The pictures from the camera seemed poor. In our office (which can be a bit dark as we tend to have many of the overhead lights turned off) pictures were very grainy and had a surprising blue tint. Resolution seemed to be on a par with the SonyEricsson t610 camera, but the overall picture quality was worse.
- The 5 way directional pad seemed fine. The button in the middle will take a bit of getting used to, but that's okay.
- Typing on the keyboard was not much different to the Treo 180 that I own. The keys are closer together, but are more distinct.
- No SIM card was present, so it wasn't possible to test voice quality.
Overall a bit of a disappointment, especially given that it's necessary to buy a contract with Orange to get one.
