Simon pointed out in the comments to my recent Google AdSense entry that Google forbids following ads on your own site.

It's part of the Google AdSense Program Policies, where under the title of Prohibited/Fraudulent Clicks it says:

Please note that clicking on your own ads for any reason is prohibited, to avoid potential inflation of advertiser costs.
