Knoppix to the rescue! (again)

Posted on Apr 21, 2004

The people that put the Knoppix distribution together get another big thanks from my daughter and I today. Her laptop (a 4 year old Dell Latitude) developed a bad patch on the disk somewhere in the middle of agp440.sys, and hence wouldn’t boot. There were three not backed up essays on there.

With Knoppix it was a simple case of booting from the CD, checking that the wireless network was working (it was), mounting the NTFS partition and shipping the data across the network to another machine.

Easy!

Just imagine how awkward it might have been otherwise.

Now to decide what to do about the machine…
