If you’ve ever sat in front of both a Mac and a Unix machine then I have two pieces of advice:

  1. cut your mouse mat in half, because you never use all of it and a smaller mouse mat can fit in-between two keyboards,
  2. look at osx2x.

osx2x allows you to use the keyboard and mouse connected to your Mac to control a remote X server. This means that you might be able to get rid of one of your keyboard/mouse pairs from the desk altogether! It’s not perfect - whilst typing this entry I tried to fill a paragraph and ended up quitting the application. Oops. Undoubtedly it will be useful for some things though.
