Steve Jay: Got my iPod working with my Solaris desktop. Very cool.

Connecting the iPod and having it recognised as a disk works for me as well. Unfortunately my iPod is HFS (or HFS+) formatted, which Solaris doesn’t understand. The instructions for converting an HFS iPod to FAT32 are a little intimidating, particularly given that I’m not sure how I’d use fdisk on the iPod under Solaris.

Using a FireWire drive to transport data to and from the office is very appealing. Solaris builds run to around 1.6G (x86 only), which takes around eight hours to transfer over my DSL line. Grabbing both x86 and sparc builds, perhaps including DVD images, when visiting the office once each week sounds like a great idea.
