The Upside-Down-Ternet

Via Matthias, the Upside-Down-Ternet.

I’ve run one or more open wireless networks at home for almost ten years. Two weeks ago I enabled WEP and went around configuring all of our machines appropriately :-(

There’s never really been any problem with the network being open - perhaps a total of twenty people have ever connected from outside our house. Unfortunately, for the last month or so someone kept joining the network and assuming the IP address of my server/router. Needless to say, this caused a bunch of confusion for everyone else. After some time trying to figure out what was going on (and failing), I gave up and turned on WEP.

Oh well.
